Percussion-Music.com is proud to present 3 brand-new concert pieces, composed by Henk Martens, a well-known percussionist and composer from the Netherlands.
This concert piece consists of various impressions of beautiful South Africa. From a beautiful sunrise over the Savannah to raging herds and a beautiful view from Table Mountain.
The Middle Ages
In this composition you hear the life story of the poor peasants and workmen in the Middle Ages. These people had a very hard life, they had to work hard and had little money for food. A large part of the proceeds of their land went to the landlord or king. They were oppressed and often mistreated.
You hear in this composition the revolt of the peasants, they attack with sticks and rakes. They have no real weapons. They don’t stand a chance against the king’s well-equipped knights and guards. The battle ends in favor of the king and he strikes back hard. There are many deaths to mourn. Especially among the farmers and the workmen. All that’s left is a lot of sadness.
The Taste of Vibes
This is a concert piece with the vibraphonist as the shining centerpiece. In the composition, the vibraphonist forms a synthesis with the percussion ensemble, in which virtuosity and sensitivity go hand in hand. Characteristic are the influences from ethnic and pop/jazz music. This makes the work a feast to listen too, for both players and listeners.
